Garage Door Seals and Water Tightness

All garage door types, makes and models are primarily designed as ‘vehicle access doors’.

While some garage doors utilise rubber and brush seals and have much higher levels of protection and lower U-values than others, they are all designed around the same principle, and lack the rebated seals and levels of protection that a double-glazed window or front entrance door would provide.

Insulated garage doors incorporating rubber and brush seals may provide higher levels of protection against moderate water ingress and debris such as leaves and rubbish blowing under the door, however, there is no garage door on the market that will completely eliminate water ingress, particularly in heavy or driving rain. And whilst insulated and sealed products will provide much higher levels of thermal and acoustic insulation compared to ‘single skin’ type doors, similarly, they will not completely eliminate draughts or provide the same level of protection as double-glazed windows, entrance doors or insulated walls.

Both manufacturer specific and third-party additional sealing products, such as rubber floor seals and door seals are available, which can enhance the protection provided by a garage door, however, whilst these products can increase the protection against water and debris ingress, they do not guarantee to eliminate it completely.

Please also note, these are additional products are not supplied as standard with any garage door and as such will be subject to a separate quotation and additional costs.

SDS do not provide any warranty or guarantees against water ingress where a product has been installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications and there has been no failure of any part or seal.
